In the series >Commission and Art – East and West in Retrospect<, different aspects of this precarious interweaving of commission and art will be presented in no particular order, focussing on East and West. Historical and contemporary artists’ reflections on this loaded relationship, and documentary elements will shed light on contexts and arguments. The works present various aspects of the subject, refer to the individual commission of the artist, to social and educational commissions, to debates on freedom, compulsions and the self-conceptions of the diverse actors.
